This is the first opportunity for me to blow off some cobwebs and try out some new stuff on the rvf400. Hopefully
the weather will be dry and sunny. I will tell you all about it next week.
Well, the 8 of march came and the bike was loaded into the van. I just had to tack it easy for a session or 2 on it as
the engine had just been rebuilt. I set off early in the morning so i could take my time and have no big rush to get
there or get ready at the track. As I headed towards Dundalk, all I could see was snow on the hills and some on
the road too. I wasn't looking forward to this. As I got closer to Kirkistown, the weather was better. No snow , no
rain but very windy. The track was dry and the winds were very strong.
I got my bike unloaded, signed on and got myself ready. The warmers were on, the kettle boiled and some food
eaten. Lets go. I had loads of time, so my group went out and I just took it easy to see how things were. There was
a damp spot at fisherman's but the rest was grand apart from all the dirt on the track from Debtors right through
Colonial. Not much grip at all. In fact, the whole track lacked grip, more likely due to the cold than anything else.
When I came back in, my tires were not very hot.
Kenny was beside me on his pre97 machine and I tried to show him a few lines in the second session. I was
thinking that he would stay with me but I lost him in traffic. This time I started to wind her up a bit too so it was
probably my fault for not waiting for him. Jason Doyle was there on a very quick 400 ( 80 odd bhp) and we had a
good session playing cat and mouse. PJ Gallagher was beside us as well and he went well on his 750 Suzuki. He
is a sound man. The day went without any major problem for us. There were plenty of fallers, none seriously hurt,
so there was no major delays. The food went down a treat with everyone, burgers and sausages from the shop I
work in ( Currans Butchers in Stamullen). Just at the end as i was packing up, the rain came. We managed to just
have to put up with the wind for the day so all in all it was a good day.
Next up for me is the 29th of March, King of the Court race meeting at Bishopscourt, Co.Down.
