It is with great saddness that I write
this report as road racing has once again
proved to be a very cruel sport to those
involved.
Last sunday's races at Ballybunion saw
the death of one of the most colourful and
accomplished men in the sport. Richard
Britton's  life was prematurely ended in a
freak accident when he hit a stone pier.
Richard was buried in his hometown of
Enniskillen, a town which came to a complete
standstill to mourn the loss of it's
favourite son.
There was only 2 races completed
before this tragedy, which resulted in the
rest of the meeting being abandoned.
Andrew Courtney won the support race,
giving him the championship. Paul Gartland
finished 4th, leaving him in 2nd, and our own
Shane Connor retired on the second last
lap, scoring no points, he ended up 3rd in
the championship.
That is it for road racing this year,
although there is still some short circuit
racing left. When you go to bed at night,
say a little prayer for the late great
Richard Britton. 1970- 2005. R.I.P.
